Acquired in March, 1989
Stevens Aviation, Inc., headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, is a leading provider of aviation services to operators of personal, corporate, and military aircraft. The company was founded in 1950 with a single location at the Greenville Downtown Municipal Airport. In 1962, Stevens moved to the new Greenville-Spartanburg Jetport (now known as Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport) and was incorporated as Stevens Aviation, Inc. Five years later Stevens became an authorized Beechcraft dealer/distributor and authorized service center with the acquisition of the company’s former Knoxville, Tennessee location. Over the years, Stevens developed an outstanding reputation for quality and workmanship which has secured Stevens position as the largest independent Beechcraft maintenance provider in the world. On March 31, 1989, Stevens was acquired by Tom Foley, NTC’s controlling shareholder.
At the time of the acquisition, Stevens’ primary focus was on sales and maintenance of new and used Beechcraft products. The new ownership broadened the company’s offering by expanding the maintenance, modification, and refurbishment segment of the business. Since the new owners acquired Stevens, a new location was acquired in Denver and another was opened at Donaldson Center in Greenville.
Stevens operates through three business units:
The Technical Services Division ("TSD") provides airframe maintenance, avionics installation and repair, modifications, interior (upholstery and cabinetry) and exterior (paint) refurbishment, and component overhaul (collectively referred to as maintenance, repair, and overhaul or MRO), parts sales, and engine inspection and repair services;
Aircraft Sales (“ACS”) sells new Beech Aircraft and also purchases and sells used turboprop and jet aircraft of all makes and models. (Stevens is the largest independent provider of maintenance on Beechcraft products); and
Location Based Services (“LBS”) provides services including aircraft fueling, other ground support, and tenant services.
Stevens has focused on providing MRO services for turbine-powered aircraft and has achieved substantial growth in this area. Stevens is a dealer/distributor for Beech aircraft at five locations and is an authorized service facility of Learjet at the company’s Donaldson Center facility in Greenville. The company also has the capability to service a broad range of other manufacturers’ turboprop and jet aircraft.
